A driver who officials said fled from a traffic stop in Brighton on Tuesday is dead after a police chase ended with a crash. "This is a tragic incident, and as law enforcement officers, we never want to see a life lost," Brighton Police Chief Brent Pirochta said in a statement Wednesday.

A Raynham man suspected of fleeing from several police agencies in the last several weeks faces charges in connection with a pursuit with Massachusetts State Police, ending in a crash on Tuesday, a State Police spokesperson said.

The 18-year-old is being charged with operating under the influence of liquor and negligent operation of a motor vehicle, police said.

A former Southaven police officer was sentenced to 10 years in prison and ordered to pay a $10,000 fine for his involvement in a car theft ring.

The chase started just north of downtown and ended at the Speedway gas station off Brick Road near the Bypass.

Michael Howard, of Raynham, was charged with failure to stop for police and leaving the scene of property damage.

It marked the 2nd time in June that two motorcyclists attacked a driver after a traffic dispute in the township.
