Europe’s top human rights court delivered two rulings against Russia Wednesday, stating Russia has violated international law in Ukraine, the first time an international court has found Moscow responsible for human rights abuses since the full-scale invasion in 2022.

The European Court of Human Rights delivered two of four rulings against Russia in an international inquiry brought by Ukraine and the Netherlands.

Two landmark decisions by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruled that Russia committed violations of international law during its war in Ukraine and was responsible for the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 in 2014.
