WASHINGTON – The news of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's divorce from his wife of 38 years may be a gift to at least one Texan: his Republican primary opponent, incumbent Sen. John Cornyn. Paxton and Cornyn have been barreling toward a bruising 2026 primary battle to represent Republicans in the Texas Senate race next fall.
The effort could help Republicans maintain control of Congress next year. But it may also leave incumbents vulnerable to new Democratic challenges.
