On Saturday, Quantrill crossed paths with the Royals again. And this time, he propelled the Marlins to victory at LoanDepot Park. The Royals logged just two hits against Quantrill, who remains undefeated against them.

Otto López hit a go-ahead two-run double in the eighth inning and the Miami Marlins beat the Kansas City Royals 3-1 on Saturday. Xavier Edwards tripled and doubled for the Marlins, who won their fourth straight and are 21-10 since June 13.

MIAMI – Marlins right-hander Cal Quantrill tossed six scoreless innings and Otto Lopez drove in three runs in Saturday’s series-clinching 3-1 victory over the Royals at loanDepot park.

Mike Rosenstein of NESN has named Miami as a perfect trade partner for Boston and has specifically named three pitchers the Red Sox could pursue: Sandy Alcantara, Edward Cabrera and Cal Quantrill.

What’s next: The Royals continue their weekend series at the Marlins. On Saturday, KC right-handed starter Michael Wacha (4-9, 3.74 ERA) will start opposite MLB veteran Cal Quantrill (3-8, 5.62 ERA) at 3:10 p.m. Central Time.

For John Rave, the All-Star break was much more productive than a four-day hiatus from baseball. Instead, the work-focused break seemed to make quite the impact.

The Marlins will start Sandy Alcantara, who after missing 2024 has not had a good return in 2025. He’s got a 7.22 ERA (!) on top of a 4.59 FIP. Strikeouts are down, walks are up, homers are up...everything you don’t want as a pitcher. A glance at his game log doesn’t seem to reveal any trends. He’s just been bad the whole season.

The Marlins are an average defensive team with Lopez, Edwards, and Myers providing strong defense up the middle. Ramirez has thrown out just 12 percent of would-be basestealers. The Marlins are a below-avearge base-stealing team, although they have a number of players that can be a threat to swipe a base.
