ATLANTA – The Cincinnati Reds selected Steele Hall, a high school shortstop from Alabama, with the ninth overall pick in the 2025 MLB draft Sunday night. The young, speedy Hall is the first high school hitter the Reds have taken in the first round since outfielder Austin Hendricks in 2020 (12th overall).

The Reds on Sunday selected shortstop Steele Hall of Hewitt-Trussville (Ala.) High School with the ninth pick of the 2025 MLB Draft.

The 66-year-old had a franchise-record 921 wins in 11 years with Cleveland, 744 in seven seasons with Boston, and 285 in his first stop at Philadelphia.

The Reds' 4-2 victory against the Colorado Rockies saw Cincinnati's Terry Francona earn the 2,000th victory of his managerial career before a crowd of 24,541 on Sunday, July 13. Francona burnished his career resume as he became the 13th manager in MLB history to reach the 2,000-win threshold.

Cincinnati manager emotional after reaching milestone. "It's not often I get a little choked up, and that hit me pretty hard," he said.
