High school football teams in West Virginia will face off in the postseason using a new points system that withstood legal scrutiny.

The 2024 West Virginia high school football playoffs started off to a rocky start with legal action left and right.

District Court Judge Ronald Johnson ruled against the school and in favor of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association, which ruled last month that two of the Cubs’ players that transferred from Liberty Magnet High were ineligible and ordered U-High to forfeit seven of its wins.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — High school football teams in West Virginia will face off in the postseason using a new points system that withstood legal scrutiny from the state’s highest court on Tuesday, although the playoffs will still be delayed one week.

After weeks of legal battles with multiple county school systems, the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals has ruled that the high school football playoffs will continue this week.

The 2024 West Virginia high school football playoffs remained in limbo for a week and a half, due to a litany of injunctions and other legal actions.

The West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals rules in favor of the WVSSAC in the high school football playoff controversy. Today the court issued an order vacating the injunctions issued by the Wood and Mason County circuit courts.
