The Boston Bruins have fired head coach Jim Montgomery, the team announced on Tuesday.Associate coach Joe Sacco is replacing Montgomery on the Boston bench on an interim basis.Jim Montgomery firedMontgomery was in the final year of a three-year contract that he signed with Boston in June of 2022 to replace Bruce Cassidy.

The 55-year-old Medford native, who has spent 11 seasons on the Bruins bench, will now get the shot to lead his hometown team.

In Boston, Montgomery replaced Bruce Cassidy — another likeable Bruins coach whose teams racked up 100-point seasons but flamed out in the postseason. Cassidy was fired three years after leading Boston to the 2019 Stanley Cup Final and hired by Vegas eight days after the Bruins fired him.
